Rain Taxi invites emerging MINNESOTA poets to apply for

THE STATE-TO-STATE POETS EXCHANGE

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

See instructions and guidelines below!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

A collaborative effort between Rain Taxi Review of Books and the Poetry Society of America, the State-to-State Poets Exchange offers emerging poets from New York City and Minnesota the opportunity to expand the reach of their work by connecting to an active literary community outside their home state. The first event, held on Monday, April 28th, featured Christina Davis, an emerging New York City-based poet who gave a public reading and on-stage interview focused on her current work in progress. The interview with Davis is published in the Summer 2008 issue of Rain Taxi Review of Books!

The second event will feature a Minnesota poet who will fly to New York City to meet with literary movers and shakers in the city and give a reading and on-stage interview. The public event will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at 7 pm, and will be hosted by The Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House at New York University. If you are interested in applying for this unique opportunity, please keep reading!

HOW TO APPLY

Minnesota-based poets who fit the eligibility requirements are invited to send a cover letter, resume, and a sample of 10 pages of new poetry via email to info@raintaxi.com. Attachments should be RTF word documents or PDFs; no applications will be accepted after September 1, 2008. The featured poet will be chosen from submitted applications by a panel comprised of personnel from Rain Taxi, the PSA, and a guest poet, and will be notified by September 30, 2008. In addition to travel and lodging, the featured poet will receive an honorarium of $500, and the on-stage interview will be transcribed and published in Rain Taxi Review of Books.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be residents of Minnesota. Applicants must have published one full-length book of poetry, and should be currently working on a second manuscript. (Sorry, poets who have a second manuscript already accepted for publication may not apply). All applicants will be notified by return email that their applications have been received; however, we cannot accept corrections or revisions to submissions. Notification of the selected poet will be posted on the Rain Taxi website (www.raintaxi.com) by October 15, 2008. There is no entry fee to apply.

The State-to-State Poets Exchange is made possible by a grant from the Jerome Foundation.
