Rain Taxi invites emerging poets to apply for

THE STATE-TO-STATE POETS EXCHANGE

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: JANUARY 15TH - FEBRUARY 15TH

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

A collaborative effort between Rain Taxi Review of Books and the Poetry Society of America, the State-to-State Poets Exchange offers emerging poets from New York City and Minnesota the opportunity to expand the reach of their work by connecting to an active literary community outside their home state. For the first event, an emerging New York City-based poet will travel to Minnesota, meet with seasoned editors and literary presenters, and give a public reading and on-stage interview focused on his or her current work in progress. (For the second event, a Minnesota poet will travel to New York in the fall; Minnesota poets should check back this summer for application information.)

The public event will take place on Monday, April 28, 2008, at 7 pm, and will be hosted by The Loft Literary Center at Open Book in conjunction with the exhibition The Face of Poetry. The State-to-State Poets Exchange is made possible by a grant from the Jerome Foundation.

HOW TO APPLY

New York City-based poets who fit the eligibility requirements are invited to send a cover letter, resume, and a sample of 10 pages of new poetry via email to info@raintaxi.com. Attachments should be RTF word documents or PDFs; no applications will be accepted after February 15, 2008. The featured poet will be chosen from submitted applications by a panel comprised of personnel from Rain Taxi, the PSA, and a guest poet, and will be notified by March 15, 2008. In addition to travel and lodging, the featured poet will receive an honorarium of $500, and the on-stage interview will be transcribed and published in Rain Taxi Review of Books.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be residents of New York City's five boroughs (Brooklyn, The Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island). Applicants must have published one full-length book of poetry, and be working on a second manuscript. (Poets who have a second manuscript already accepted for publication may not apply). All applicants will be notified by return email that their applications have been received; however, we cannot accept corrections or revisions to submissions. Notification of the selected poet will be posted on the Rain Taxi website (www.raintaxi.com) by April 1, 2008. There is no entry fee to apply.
